Q: Are US policies towards Mexico imperialistic? Why or why not.

The policies that the United States took towards Mexico has been imperialistic. To begin, already by 1913, American capitalists had bankrupt approximately a billon dollars into Mexico. To add on, President Wilson also did not acknowledge General Victoriano Huerta as president of the Mexico. President Wilson also stated that he was going to “teach the South American republics to elect good men,” signifying a political domination over Mexico and thus making this statement imperialistic. Through Wilson, the port of Vera Cruz was apprehended by the US navy- another quality of being imperialistic. The US Congress had not yet approved to use force against Mexico after Wilson urged for it from the determination of eliminating Huerta. By using U S troops to invade Mexico in order to break down on Pancho Villa and his troops is imperialistic because it attempted to dominate Mexico until in January of 1917 when the army had to withdraw due to the threat of a war with Germany.
