the application i never turned in

Having an opportunity to join Laurels brings the satisfaction of accomplishment. Just the entire process of applying to Laurels brings a sense of responsibility to meet the given requirements. I truly desire to be admitted to Laurels because if I am given a chance to be part of this club, it will fulfill myself in a sense that I will be aware of the good use I am to society. I would like to join Laurels so that I may put to practice my humanitarian skills.
Laurels will bring out the best of my character. I believe that my enthusiastic quality will contribute to Laurels by generating passion amongst the members and our assigned activity. My character is eccentric. I consider myself different than many of the students, yet, I will use my “unusualness” to bring diversity into Laurels. My open-mindedness demonstrates that I am capable of working or getting along with other students in this kind of environment.
People often complain that El Monte is a bad place. Instead of whining about how bad a place is, how about helping the community to make it better? Community service is important because it gives people an opportunity to provide change. Helping the community demonstrates that no one is left behind and that society, as a whole, will prosper. Taking action not makes a contribution to the community but it sends out a message of unity among all.
This past summer I volunteered at a tutoring program for kids ages 11-13. I was a tutor in both math and English subjects. I went to training and learned to cope with difficult situations a child might go through in summer school. For example, if a student was not cooperating with the teacher, I was instructed to personally talk to the student, “friend to friend”, due to the closeness in age, about problems they were having that resulted in the way they acted. It impacted my life because now I can relate with my own peers; if they are acting in a kind of way that one of my students use to act I am more understanding than rather make false judgments about them.
Community service impacts both school and community in a positive way because not only are you learning a new skill but give something back to the community. I believe that this past summer at my volunteer job I helped many students who were neglected of attention and understanding. Some of them underestimated themselves because of bad experiences with teachers. If one make the effort to help another being, then they too can pass on the knowledge the have learned and thus created a more prospering society. Not just in education but other types of community service is also crucial. People get motivate to socialize with people out of their environment and create a positive model for future generations to follow.
